Discarded things found in construction containers in the new town of Leidsche Rijn (2004)

This work took place within a newly built residential area near Utrecht, where 80.000 houses were constructed over 20 years. The project reused objects that were found in local dumpsters and thrown away by the new residents.  During the night, there were many other people who all sorted objects from the building containers. There was a whole economy built around the moment when the inhabitants arrived in the newly constructed area.

For the project, we collected many of these objects and exhibited them in front of a newly built apartment block. With a photograph of this intervention, a small poster was created as an announcement for the presentation of ’Refuse Dump’ that took the shape of a presentation in and around the artist-in-residence studio.
