Projectspace

Projectspace De 5er was an exhibition space within the context of an artist initiative. We took over the organization and rebuild the interior of the space. Every two or three weeks there were openings of projects and exhibitions. While we renovated the space we accentuated a part of the history of the space namely the remains of a fire on the ceiling. We collected several layers of systemceiling in the neighborhood out of buildings that were going to be demolished. These layers together with one layer of new panels created a history of the building and it's environment.
This interior created a tension between two spaces, the lower space (a white gallery space) vs. the upper space (blackened walls and ceiling). The whole space questions the neutral white cube. The space had a tension, participating artists could react on this or deny it. In September 2004 we staged the last show. The building was part of a block with artists and demolished in the end.
It has been a lively space, with more then 33 shows in two years.
