A Small World of Grand Emotions*

In the context of the project ORTung I was Invited for a residency period in Strobl an empty summerhouse (deserted since WWII) in a small village at Wolfgangsee in Austria. The area of Wolfgangsee is very touristic and popular in the winter and summer season.
Franz Sams (>75 years of age) is a local photographer of Strobl. Every thursday he gives slide lectures (winter and summer) called ‘Schones Strobl’ (beautiful Strobl) in the tourist office in Strobl. His own photographs of the village and surroundings from a period of 50 years and of every season are presented in this lecture. Besides these slide lectures he gives introduction talks and presentations for groups of tourists about the surroundings of Strobl. Visiting tourists are inspired by his pictures and he gives tips for the locations and angles to make similar images of the area.
I invited Franz Sams to participate in the final presentation of the project ORTung in Salzburg. I made pictures of details of the village that were particular interesting to me. Together we presented our individual slide shows in the Gallery 5020.
Julie Peeters designed a poster for this project. She used a cut out of an existing folder of the local tourist office and made a composition based on this design with my photographs of Strobl on the other side.
