Group exhibition

12.11–17.11.2014: IKON Gallery, Birmingham, UK

Ikon, in partnership with Hippodrome Plus, presents an exhibition of international video art in the Southside district, showcasing a wide variety of free night-screenings by artists from the UK and abroad, in unusual urban spaces. New commissions inspired by their location, alongside films from Ikon’s recent programme, explore everyday city life.

Works include Beat Streuli’s New Street (2013), projected sequences of photographic stills across three large screens; Gillian Wearing’s Broad Street (2000) which focuses on Birmingham’s frenetic night-life and Oliver Beer’s Pay and Display (2011), an experimental music video made in collaboration with the city’s Ex Cathedra choir. Birmingham Hippodrome hosts Adel Abdessemed’s Happiness in Mitte (2003) and Kelly Mark’s Hiccup #2 (2006) whilst other venues show new commissions by Dean Kelland and Perry Roberts, plus Cornelia Parker’s Chomskian Abstract (2007); and Grace Ndiritu’s Nightingale (2003), amongst others.
